Bu çalışma 21. yüzyılın en dinamik ve çarpıcı konularından birini oluşturan teknoloji ve din ilişkisini nesnel bir zeminde ele alma ihtiyacından doğmuştur. Zira günümüzde teknoloji insanın sadece gündelik hayatını kolaylaştıran dışsal bir unsur olmaktan çıkmış; insanın varoluşu, zamanı ve mekânı algılama biçimini baştan aşağı değiştiren kuşatıcı bir sistem haline gelmiştir. Bu durum geleneksel dinlerin asırlardır tekelinde tuttuğu anlam üretme ve açıklama alanlarını hızla daraltmaktadır. Eserin temel hareket noktası ve ana problemi; tarihsel süreçte teknolojik gelişmeye karşı dini kurumların ve dindarların ürettiği reflekslerin nedenlerini anlamak ve toplumsal gerçeklikle ne ölçüde uyuştuğunu sorgulamaktır.

This study arose from the need to examine the relationship between technology and religion—one of the most dynamic and striking issues of the twenty-first century—on an objective basis. Today, technology has ceased to be merely an external instrument that facilitates everyday life; rather, it has become an all-encompassing system that fundamentally transforms the way human beings perceive existence, time, and space. This transformation is rapidly narrowing the domains of meaning-making and explanation that traditional religions have held for centuries. The main point of departure and central problem of this work is to understand the reasons behind the responses produced by religious institutions and believers toward technological development throughout history, and to examine the extent to which these responses correspond with social reality
